Stewart Banner Participates in Emory Law’s Orientation on Professionalism Program
BRAWW Law is proud to share that attorney Stewart Banner recently participated in the Emory Law School Orientation on Professionalism Program, a pivotal launching point for emerging law students. Administered under the guidance of the Georgia Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism and in partnership with the State Bar of Georgia, this mandatory orientation introduces first-year (and transfer and LLM) students to the ethical values and professional standards expected throughout their legal careers. Launched at Emory Law 33 years ago, this program helped pioneer early professionalism training for new law students.
As one of about 65 volunteer attorneys, Stewart led small-group discussions built around ethical hypotheticals, encouraging students to think critically about professional conduct, sound judgment, and the consequences of missteps in law school and beyond. These conversations were enriched by the diverse perspectives of practicing attorneys, judges, and faculty, giving students an early opportunity to engage with the profession’s core values of excellence, integrity, respect, and service.
For participating attorneys, the program also provides CLE credit while reinforcing a shared commitment to professionalism across Georgia’s legal community.
Stewart, a group leader for many years, describes the program as both enjoyable and rewarding, saying:
“I found it very enjoyable and rewarding, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to participate. I was also thoroughly impressed with the students, who all seemed extremely bright, articulate, and mature. If this group is representative of other first-year law school students, the legal profession will be getting some excellent new lawyers in a few years.
Programs like Emory Law’s Orientation on Professionalism underscore that success in the legal field is about more than knowing the law; it’s also about building a career on ethics, integrity, and professionalism. For students just starting their journeys, these lessons are just as essential as classroom learning, shaping the kind of lawyers they will become and the trust they will earn from clients, colleagues, and the courts.
