BRAWW Law Principal, Jessica Wood, served as a panelist for The Reflective Lawyer: The Importance of Emotional Intelligence and Mindfulness, part of the Georgia Latino Law Foundation (GLLF) Leadership Academy’s fall programming. Panelists included Adam Ford and Georgia State University College of Law Professor Christina Scott. The event was helmed by GLLF leaders Veronica Macias and Anaid Reyes-Kipp, and hosted by Briana James at Eversheds Sutherland.
The event gathered law students and emerging leaders for a thoughtful discussion on how emotional intelligence and mindfulness shape effective, ethical, and grounded legal practice. The program began with time for networking, a light dinner, and a brief mindfulness exercise before transitioning into the moderated panel.
Jessica was joined by fellow panelists and introduced by GLLF organizers Anaid and her team. Together, they explored key questions, including:
- How emotional intelligence (EI) influences professional growth
- Why EI matters in the practice of law
- The connection between mindfulness and leadership
- Practical mindfulness habits legal professionals can adopt
- Resources for students and attorneys seeking to strengthen these skills
- Advice for students entering the profession
Throughout the discussion, Jessica shared insights from her own career and commitment to people-centered advocacy, emphasizing that emotional intelligence and mindful self-awareness are not optional “soft skills,” but core competencies for building sustainable, ethical legal careers. BRAWW Law is proud of her continued involvement in legal education and leadership development, and her work in helping guide the next generation of lawyers as they step into an increasingly complex profession.
