Golf, Give, Repeat: ABCD’s Model for High-Energy Community Impact

Who says giving back has to feel like homework? Four longtime friends proved it can feel like a great day on the course.

That’s the spirit behind ABCD, Achieving Bright Community Dreams, the Atlanta nonprofit BRAWW Law helped the founders form. On Friday, August 1, 2025, ABCD staged its 3rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament, a sold-out, 120-golfer scramble benefiting LifeHouse Atlanta.

ABCD was started by President Yale Cottrell IV with Cablik Enterprises, Vice President Joshua Moorhead with INCO Group, Treasurer Graham Massell with Massell Commercial Real Estate, and Course Coordinator Brak Akers with Place Services Inc., best friends from the commercial real estate (CRE) community whose birthday round turned into an annual tradition. Then three years ago, they added a mission: bring architects, brokers, builders, and developers together to play golf, build relationships, and fuel local philanthropy.

This year’s beneficiary, LifeHouse Atlanta, is developing the first respite and palliative-care home for medically fragile children in the Southeast—a safe setting with full medical support so families can rest. The cause is close to home: Massell serves on LifeHouse’s board and building advisory committee.

The tournament kept things brisk and competitive: a scramble format with $250 hole sponsorships, closest-to-the-pin and long-drive contests, and 27+ teams in the field, all capped by a playoff on Hole 9 to crown the champions.

Next up are golf-simulator nights, pickleball, and casual meetups, with an intentional membership model under consideration, valuable, welcoming, and never a pitch-fest. The founders also see a bigger play: partnering with additional local nonprofits to produce turnkey charity tournaments for causes that have supporters but not tournament know-how.

For now, ABCD runs through an invitation-only Meetup and fills fast. Nonprofits and sponsors who want to connect with Atlanta’s built-environment community while doing good, stay tuned.

Congratulations to Graham Massell, Brad Akers, Joshua Moorhead, and Yale Cottrell IV on delivering a sold-out tournament, and thanks to everyone who came out for LifeHouse Atlanta. Among the golfers was BRAWW Law attorney Chris Day, who shared that he was glad to be part of the event and enjoyed the chance to support such a meaningful cause while connecting with others in the community. BRAWW Law was proud to help launch ABCD and to champion a model that makes community impact feel like a great day on the links.
